A Day of Exploration and Education with Kismet of Kings
On June 25th, the young men of Kismet of Kings experienced a day filled with learning, camaraderie, and important discussions, led by Nevin Perkins and Erroll Worrell. The day kicked off with an enlightening campus tour of Hudson County Community College, where the boys explored the campus, learned about educational opportunities, discussed culturally relevant information, and enjoyed a meal together. Special shout-outs go to Ms. Ross, Mr. Anderson, and the EOF department for making the visit one our young men are sure not to forget any time soon!
The second half of the day was spent at the Holiday Inn Express in Jersey City, NJ, where the boys participated in a sleep-in. This time was dedicated to fostering meaningful friendships and togetherness, with plenty of activities and another meal shared.
A significant session during the sleep-in was focused on the opioid crisis that is affecting so many communities. Topics covered included understanding what opioids are, the risks and consequences associated with their use, recognizing signs of addiction, and discussing prevention strategies. This session was crucial in raising awareness and educating the boys on this pressing issue.
The next morning, everyone enjoyed breakfast and continued bonding before returning home. The day was a perfect blend of educational experiences, personal growth, and the strengthening of friendships, thanks to the thoughtful leadership of Nevin Perkins and Erroll Worrell.
We at Kismet of Kings are proud to facilitate such enriching experiences, knowing that today’s field trip plants the seeds for tomorrow’s leaders.
